The Moonlight Pavilion, known as Preah Tineang Chanchaya in Khmer, is a significant structure within the Royal Palace of Phnom Penh. This open-air pavilion has historically served as a stage for Khmer classical dance performances, royal addresses, and state banquets. Its location along the palace's eastern wall makes it visible from the outside, adding to its notability. The pavilion's history dates back over a century, with the current structure built in 1913-1914 under King Sisowath to replace an earlier wooden version constructed during King Norodom's reign. The Moonlight Pavilion has a balcony that has been used as a platform for viewing parades marching along Sothearos Boulevard. The pavilion was also used for a banquet at the 2004 coronation of King Norodom Sihamoni. The Moonlight Pavilion remains an important symbol of Cambodian culture and royalty, hosting cultural events and serving as a venue for the King to address the Cambodian people.
