Walking
From the center of Ouray, head north on Main Street towards the Ouray County Courthouse. Continue walking for about 0.5 miles until you reach the junction with Highway 550. Turn right to head north on Highway 550. You will need to walk along the highway for about 13 miles. Enjoy the scenic views as you walk along the river and through the mountains. The walk will take approximately 4 to 5 hours, so ensure you have water and snacks with you. Keep an eye out for the signs indicating you are nearing Silverton.

If you have access to a bike, rent one from a local shop in Ouray. Start at the Ouray Visitor Center and head north on Main Street. Follow the same route as if you were walking, but on a bike, it will be much faster. You’ll travel along Highway 550, which is a well-known scenic route. The biking distance is approximately 13 miles and will take about 1.5 to 2 hours depending on your speed. Make sure to wear a helmet and follow all safety precautions while biking on the highway.
