    From downtown Salida, head north on Highway 291. Sands Lake SWA will be on your left, just past the Mount Shavano State Fish Hatchery. Parking areas are accessible off of Spiral Drive. Parking is free. Be aware that parking can be limited.

  • Public Transportation

    Mountain Valley Transit (formerly Chaffee Shuttle) provides transportation services in Salida and Buena Vista. Contact them for routes and schedules to reach Sands Lake SWA. Donations are appreciated for the free service.

  • Walking

    If you are near the Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center, Sands Lake SWA is a short walk east. Follow Highway 291 north for approximately 0.1 miles. The SWA will be on the opposite side of the highway.
