If you are driving from San José, take Route 1 (Pan-American Highway) heading northwest. Follow the signs towards Alajuela. Approximately 23 km from San José, exit onto Route 130 towards Poás Volcano. Continue on Route 130 for about 14 km, then follow the signs to the Poás Volcano National Park entrance. Be prepared for winding roads as you ascend the mountain. There is a parking area available at the park entrance, and a fee of around $15 per vehicle is required to enter the park.

To reach Poás Volcano via public transport, first take a bus from San José to Alajuela. Buses leave regularly from the Terminal 7-10. Once in Alajuela, transfer to a bus bound for Poás Volcano, which can be found at the Alajuela bus station. The journey to the volcano takes about 1.5 hours. Ensure to check the bus schedule in advance as the frequency may vary. The fare for the bus from Alajuela to Poás is around $3. Additionally, once you reach the Poás Volcano National Park entrance, you will need to pay an entrance fee of approximately $15.
