Getting There

  • Car

    From Tilarán, drive 11km (7 miles) south on Route 145 towards Monteverde. Look for signs for Viento Fresco Waterfall. The road is partly paved and bumpy, a 4x4 vehicle is recommended. After paying the entrance fee ($17 for foreigners) you will be given a map and can drive to the nearby trailhead. Parking is available at the trailhead.

  • Public Transport

    From La Fortuna, take a bus to Tilarán. From Tilarán, a taxi to Viento Fresco Waterfall costs around $15. Alternatively, buses heading towards Monteverde may be able to drop you off near the entrance, but it may involve a short walk.

Viento Fresco Waterfall is a captivating natural attraction nestled in the Guanacaste Province of Costa Rica, near the town of Tilarán. This hidden gem features not just one, but four distinct waterfalls, each offering a unique and refreshing experience. The falls range in height from 66 feet to an impressive 312 feet. The journey to Viento Fresco is an adventure in itself. The road leading to the entrance from Route 145 can be bumpy and is best traversed with a 4x4 vehicle. Upon arrival, a small building serves as the ticket office where you'll purchase your entry and receive a helpful map. The well-marked trail descends into a lush landscape, leading you to each of the waterfalls. The first, Serena River Waterfall, is easily accessible and flows into a welcoming pool. Continuing on, you'll reach the Hidden Waterfall, a smaller cascade with its own charm. The trail then opens to the Rainbow Waterfall, the tallest single drop at Viento Fresco, often creating a misty rainbow. The final waterfall, Slide Waterfall, is a short walk from Rainbow Waterfall and slides down the mountain, forming shallow pools. The family who owns the property discovered the waterfalls and decided to share them with visitors. They have since incorporated services such as horseback riding and a restaurant.
