From Dubrovnik's Old Town, head towards Pile Gate, the main entrance to the city walls. Exit through Pile Gate and walk along the coastline on Stradun until you reach the harbor area. Look for signs pointing towards Tvrđava Svetog Ivana. Follow the path along the water's edge, passing the marina and small beaches. Continue until you see the fortress rising above you; the entrance will be on your left.

Several local Libertas buses connect different parts of Dubrovnik to the Old Town. Take a bus that stops near Pile Gate or Ploče Gate. From Pile Gate, walk along Stradun towards the harbor and follow the signs to the fortress. From Ploče Gate, it's a short walk to the fortress entrance. A single bus ticket costs €1.73 if purchased at a kiosk or €1.99 if purchased on the bus.

Taxis can drop you off at Pile Gate or Ploče Gate, as the Old Town is a car-free zone. From either gate, follow the walking directions to reach the fortress.
