Kyrenia District is located in the northern part of Cyprus. The nearest airport is Ercan International Airport (ECN) in North Nicosia, which primarily serves flights from Turkey. History of Kyrenia District

Kyrenia, known as Girne in Turkish, boasts a rich history dating back to the Neolithic period. Archaeological evidence suggests that the area was inhabited as early as 5800 BC. The ancient city, believed to have been founded by the Achaeans, played a crucial role in the maritime trade routes of the eastern Mediterranean. The remnants of ancient settlements and artifacts unearthed in the area offer a glimpse into the lives of its early inhabitants.
During the Byzantine period, Kyrenia saw significant development, especially in terms of its fortifications. The Kyrenia Castle, a key landmark of the district, was originally built by the Byzantines to protect against Arab raids.
