Discover more about Větrný mlýn Lesná

Větrný mlýn Lesná, a Dutch-style windmill, stands as a proud landmark in the South Moravian village of Lesná. Built in 1862 by Franz Czerny, a local brick master, the windmill initially served the growing village of Liliendorf (now Lesná), providing a much-needed facility for grinding grain. Czerny drew inspiration from a similar structure in Retz, Austria, incorporating a unique external turning mechanism for the shingle roof and sails. For over three decades, the mill thrived, but the rise of steam-powered mills eventually led to its decline. By 1908, the sails were removed, and the building was repurposed as a cartwright's workshop. The windmill then went through a series of transformations, including a stint as a military observation post and a storage facility for the local agricultural cooperative. After years of neglect, the Lesná Windmill was lovingly restored in 1987 and transformed into a restaurant and guesthouse. Today, visitors can enjoy traditional Czech cuisine in the mill's cozy interior, with a restaurant on the ground floor and a salon for private events on the first floor. The upper level offers accommodation for those seeking a unique and memorable stay. The windmill also has a modern extension that houses an additional restaurant space. Located within the Podyjí National Park's protected zone, the Větrný mlýn Lesná provides an ideal base for exploring the natural beauty of the surrounding area. The nearby First Czech Motorcycle Museum and the Church of St. Theresa are also popular attractions.
