Getting There

  • Walking

    From the village of Hnanice, follow the yellow-marked E8 path northwest. This trail descends into the Dyje River valley. At the crossroads, turn left onto the red-marked trail, cross the suspension bridge, and ascend to Šobes vineyard. Continue uphill for approximately 600 meters to reach Sealsfield's Stone. There are no costs associated with this route.

    From Znojmo, take bus number 818 to Hnanice. The bus ticket costs approximately 20-30 CZK. From Hnanice's village green, follow the walking directions above to reach Sealsfield's Stone.

Sealsfieldův kámen, or Sealsfield's Stone, is a prominent rock formation and viewpoint within the Podyjí National Park, located south of Znojmo. The site is named in honor of Charles Sealsfield, a novelist and journalist born in the nearby village of Popice, who was known to frequent the spot for its inspiring views. From the stone, visitors can marvel at the winding canyon carved by the Dyje River, the river which the park protects. The forests surrounding the viewpoint are composed of oak, hornbeam, beech and alder trees. The unique landscape is considered unique in Central Europe. The viewpoint offers a panoramic vista, showcasing the dramatic bends of the river and the diverse ecosystem of the park. Across from Sealsfield's Stone is the King's Throne viewpoint. In the forests below, the Mločího potoka ravine and Býčí skála (Bull Rock) can be seen. Sealsfield's Stone is accessible via hiking trails and cycling routes.
