Travel Guide to Vranov Dam

Getting There

• Car

  If you're traveling by car, head towards Vranov nad Dyjí from anywhere in Podyji National Park. The most common route is to take the road leading to Znojmo (E59). Look for signs directing you to Vranov nad Dyjí. Once you reach the town, follow the signs to the Vranov Dam. The dam is approximately 5 km from the town center. You can park at designated parking areas near the dam. Be aware that parking fees may apply, typically around 50 CZK for a day.

• Public Transportation

  For those using public transportation, start by taking a train to Znojmo. From Znojmo train station, you can catch a bus to Vranov nad Dyjí. Bus services run regularly, but check the local timetable for exact times. Once in Vranov nad Dyjí, follow the signs to the dam, which is about a 30-minute walk (approximately 2.5 km) from the bus stop. Ensure to carry some change as bus tickets may need to be purchased from a vending machine or on the bus, costing around 30-50 CZK.

• Bicycle

  If you're an adventurous cyclist, consider biking from various points in Podyji National Park. There are marked cycling paths leading to Vranov nad Dyjí. The route is scenic, but please note that some paths may be uphill. Bring your own bike or rent one from local shops in nearby towns. Ensure you're prepared with water and snacks, as facilities may be limited along the way.

• Hiking

  For those who enjoy hiking, there are several trails that lead to Vranov Dam from various points within Podyji National Park. Popular starting points include the towns of Hardegg or Šobes. The hike can take anywhere from 1 to 3 hours depending on your starting location and pace. Ensure you have proper footwear and carry sufficient water. This is a great way to experience the natural beauty of the park while making your way to the dam.
