Discover more about Vranov nad Dyjí Chateau

Vranov nad Dyjí Chateau, located in the Znojmo Region of South Moravia, stands as one of Central Europe's most impressive examples of secular Baroque architecture. The chateau's history began as a medieval castle around 1100, defending Moravia's southern border. Over the centuries, it transformed into the Baroque masterpiece visitors see today. After a devastating fire in 1665, the Althann family commissioned imperial architect Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach to design the Hall of Ancestors and the Chapel of the Holy Trinity. These spaces showcase high Baroque artistry, with frescoes, sculptures, and intricate details. Later owners, including the Polish Mniszek family, contributed to the chateau's cultural significance by establishing a renowned earthenware and porcelain factory. Today, the state-owned chateau welcomes visitors to explore its lavishly furnished interiors, reflecting noble life in the 18th and 19th centuries. Guided tours reveal the Hall of Ancestors, a Baroque gem, and the Chapel of the Holy Trinity, adorned with religious motifs. The surrounding landscape, part of Podyjí National Park, offers scenic views and walking paths.
