Discover more about Ramsey Overlook- First State National Historical Park

Ramsey Overlook, nestled within the Brandywine Valley unit of First State National Historical Park, provides a tranquil vantage point to appreciate the rolling hills and winding creeks of the Brandywine Valley. This area, nicknamed “The Rocks” by park staff, features large boulders installed in 2016, creating a natural bench for visitors to pause and soak in the scenery. The overlook's history is intertwined with the story of the Lenape tribe, who once inhabited the area, followed by English colonists, primarily Quakers, who settled here. These settlers harnessed the power of the fast-moving creeks to build mills, producing wool, paper, and other goods. While the mills are no longer visible, the agricultural fields that supported the community for centuries remain, continuing to provide sustenance to the Delaware Valley. Today, Ramsey Overlook is a place to connect with nature and contemplate the layers of history that have shaped this landscape. The First State National Historical Park itself tells the story of Delaware's crucial role in the nation's founding, from early settlements to the ratification of the U.S. Constitution. The park encompasses seven sites throughout Delaware, each offering a glimpse into the state's rich past.
