Getting There

  • Public Transport

    To reach Monopoly in the Park via public transportation, take the VTA Light Rail (Blue Line) from your nearest station. If starting from the San Jose Diridon Station, board the light rail towards the Santa Teresa station and get off at the San Jose Convention Center station, which takes about 5 minutes. From there, walk 0.3 miles east on W San Carlos St to find Monopoly in the Park on your left. A single ride on VTA costs $2.50.

  • Driving

    If driving from downtown San Jose, head west on W Santa Clara St toward S 1st St, continue straight for about 0.5 miles, then turn right onto S Market St and continue for about 0.4 miles. Turn left onto W San Carlos St, and Monopoly in the Park will be on your left at 330 W San Carlos St. Note that there is no parking directly at the site. Use nearby public lots/garages on Woz Way, Auzerais St, or Almaden Blvd. Parking fees start at approximately $7. The least expensive parking is located underneath Highway 87 across from the Children's Discovery Museum.

    Monopoly in the Park is located near several landmarks such as the Children's Discovery Museum and the San Jose Convention Center. From the San Jose Convention Center, walk 0.3 miles east on W San Carlos St. The park will be on your left. There are no costs associated with walking to the park.

This isn't just a park; it's home to the world's largest permanent Monopoly board, certified by Guinness World Records, spanning 930 square feet. Originally created in 1992 for the San Francisco Landscape and Design Show, the giant granite game board was installed in Discovery Meadow in 2002. Each property square is made of heavy granite, with corner properties weighing around 236 pounds and regular properties about 140 pounds. The park provides a whimsical, larger-than-life gaming experience, complete with oversized dice and token hats. Visitors can explore the board for free during park hours and take photos with the game pieces. For a fully interactive experience, the board can be rented for private events, complete with game referees. The park is near the Children's Discovery Museum and other attractions, making it a perfect destination for a family day out. Monopoly in the Park is managed by Friends of San Jose, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving this unique attraction.
