Discover more about Brandywine Battlefield Park Visitor Center

Brandywine Battlefield Park Visitor Center marks the location of the Battle of Brandywine, fought on September 11, 1777, during the American Revolutionary War. It was the largest single-day land battle of the war, with nearly 30,000 soldiers engaged in a ten-square-mile area. Although the Continental Army, led by General George Washington, was defeated by the British forces under General William Howe, the battle is a significant part of American history. The visitor center serves as a gateway to understanding the battle, offering exhibits, artifacts, and multimedia presentations. Visitors can tour the Benjamin Ring House, which served as Washington's headquarters before the battle, and the Gideon Gilpin House, the home of a local farmer whose property was ransacked by British troops. The park also features over 50 miles of trails for hiking and exploring the historic grounds. Special events, reenactments, and educational programs are held throughout the year, providing an immersive experience for visitors of all ages. The Brandywine Battlefield Park is administered by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC) in partnership with the Brandywine Battlefield Park Associates. The park encompasses 52 acres of the former Continental Army encampment.
