The Victoria Theatre stands as a testament to Dayton's enduring commitment to the performing arts. Opened in 1866 as the Turner Opera House, it quickly became known as "the best theater west of Philadelphia". The theater has faced numerous challenges throughout its history, including fires and floods, but has always been rebuilt and restored, each time emerging with a renewed sense of purpose.
Originally constructed by Joseph and William Turner, distillery owners with a vision for a magnificent opera house, the theater has undergone several name changes, reflecting the evolving times and tastes of its audiences. It was once known as The Music Hall, the Grand Opera House, and the Victoria Opera House before finally settling on the name Victoria Theatre in 1903, a tribute to Queen Victoria.
Throughout its history, the Victoria Theatre has hosted a wide array of performances, from dramas and operas to vaudeville acts and movies. Famous performers such as Edwin Forrest, Al Jolson, The Marx Brothers, and Harry Houdini have graced its stage. Today, the Victoria Theatre continues to be a vibrant center for the arts, hosting performances by Dayton Ballet, Dayton Contemporary Dance Company, The Human Race Theatre Company, and many other local and touring groups. From the Dayton Convention Center, head north on Main Street for about a 10-minute walk. The theater will be on your right. Be mindful of pedestrian signals at intersections.

The Greater Dayton Regional Transit Authority (RTA) provides bus service to downtown Dayton. Several routes stop near the Victoria Theatre.
