Walking
If you are starting from the main tourist area of Puerto Plata, head east on Calle José de la Luz y Caballero. Continue straight until you reach the intersection with Avenida General Gregorio Luperón. Turn left onto Avenida General Gregorio Luperón and walk for about 5 minutes. This road will take you towards the city center. As you walk, you will pass several local shops and cafes. Keep your eyes open for the local architecture and vibrant atmosphere. When you reach the Plaza Independencia, turn right onto Calle San Felipe. Continue walking straight for about 10 minutes, and you will find Umbrella Street (C. San Felipe) on your left. Look for the colorful umbrellas hanging above the street, a popular photo spot.

If you are at the Fort of San Felipe, exit the fort and head south on Calle del General Luperón. Walk for approximately 5 minutes until you reach the intersection with Calle San Felipe. Turn left onto Calle San Felipe. As you walk down this street, keep an eye out for the colorful umbrellas that mark Umbrella Street. It's a short and pleasant walk, taking you through some of the local shops and eateries.

From the central market in Puerto Plata, head south on Calle 12 de Julio until you reach the intersection with Avenida 27 de Febrero. Turn left and continue walking until you see the large church, Catedral San Felipe Apostol, on your right. From there, take a right onto Calle San Felipe and continue until you reach the vibrant Umbrella Street on your right. This route will also give you a taste of local life as you pass through the bustling market area.
