Experience Los Haitises National Park

Getting There

  • Car

    From Sierra de Bahoruco, head northeast on the main road towards the town of Barahona. After approximately 30 km, you will reach the junction of the Carretera Barahona-Pedernales. Turn left onto Carretera Barahona-Pedernales (DR-44). Continue for about 25 km until you reach the town of Sabana de la Mar. Look for signs directing you to Los Haitises National Park. Follow the signs to the park entrance, which is approximately 10 km from Sabana de la Mar. Note that the road may be unpaved, so ensure your vehicle is suitable for rough terrain.

  • Public Transportation

    From Sierra de Bahoruco, take a local bus (gua gua) to Barahona. The fare is approximately 100 DOP (Dominican Pesos). Once in Barahona, transfer to another bus heading to Sabana de la Mar. This portion of the journey will cost around 150 DOP. Upon arriving in Sabana de la Mar, you can either take a taxi or a local motorcycle taxi (motoconcho) to the park entrance, which is about a 10 km ride. Expect to pay about 200 DOP for this last segment.
