Getting There

• Car

Be prepared for some winding and steep sections as you approach the lake.

  To reach Quilotoa Lake via public transportation, start in the city of Latacunga. Head to the terminal terrestre (bus terminal) and take a bus headed to Zumbahua. The bus ride costs around $2-3 and takes approximately 1.5 hours. Once you arrive in Zumbahua, you can either take a taxi for about $10 to the Quilotoa viewpoint or look for local transport options that may take you closer to the lake. Be sure to confirm the return schedule for buses from Zumbahua back to Latacunga, as they may not operate frequently.

  For those looking for a more adventurous route, consider hiking from Zumbahua to Quilotoa Lake. The hike is approximately 12 kilometers and takes around 3-4 hours depending on your pace. From the main road in Zumbahua, follow signs directing you to Quilotoa. Ensure you have plenty of water and snacks, as well as a good map or GPS device. This route offers stunning views of the Andean landscape, making your journey to the lake even more memorable.
