Car
If you are traveling by car, start from the nearest major city, which is Lago Agrio (Nueva Loja). From Lago Agrio, take the E45 road towards Cuyabeno. Follow this road for approximately 50 km until you reach the small town of Tarapoa. Once in Tarapoa, look for signs or ask locals for directions to Tucan Lodge, which is located near the river. Note that the last segment of the road may be unpaved, so a 4x4 vehicle is recommended.
Public Transportation
For those traveling by public transportation, take a bus from Lago Agrio to Tarapoa. Several bus companies operate this route, and the journey takes about 1.5 hours. Upon arrival in Tarapoa, you can either walk to the lodge if you have light luggage or hire a local taxi to take you directly to Tucan Lodge. Ensure to confirm the fare with the driver beforehand.
Boat Transfer
Once you reach Tarapoa, you may need to take a canoe or motorboat transfer to Tucan Lodge, depending on the current water levels. Coordinate this with the lodge in advance to ensure a smooth transfer. The boat ride typically takes around 30 minutes and may incur additional costs, usually ranging from $10 to $20 per person.
Use Tucan Lodge Cuyabeno as your starting point for nearby food, family ideas, nightlife, and more local discoveries.
