A taxi ride from Luxor to the Valley of the Kings typically takes 18-45 minutes. Expect to pay between 150-250 EGP for a ride around town, and 340-600 EGP for a trip to the Valley of the Kings. Some taxis may accept Euro payments. From the visitor center, a small tram (20 EGP round trip) takes you closer to the tomb entrances.

    While there is no direct public transport to the Valley of the Kings from Luxor Airport, you can take a taxi to the West Bank ferry terminal (several EGP) and then take a taxi to the Valley of the Kings (approx. 250 EGP). From the visitor center, a small tram (20 EGP round trip) takes you closer to the tomb entrances.

The Tomb of Ramses IV (KV2) is situated in the Valley of the Kings on Luxor's West Bank and stands as a testament to the grandeur of ancient Egyptian civilization. Ramses IV, who ruled from 1163 to 1156 BC, commissioned the tomb, and it remains one of the most visited sites in the valley. The tomb's design follows a straight axis, typical of the 20th Dynasty royal tombs. The burial chamber houses a red granite sarcophagus, decorated with the goddess Nut. KV2 is also notable for its historical graffiti, left by Greek, Roman, and Coptic visitors. In fact, it contains the second-highest concentration of ancient graffiti in the valley, with over 656 messages. The tomb has served various purposes throughout its history, including as a hotel for early Egyptologists. Restoration work was completed in 2022, and the tomb was reopened to visitors.
