The Sandur Art Museum, known locally as Listasavn, is a testament to the vibrant artistic heritage of the Faroe Islands. Located in Sandur, the main historical settlement on Sandoy Island, the museum offers visitors an opportunity to immerse themselves in Faroese creativity. The museum's collection spans over a century of Faroese art, featuring works by pioneers such as S.J. Mikines, Janus Kamban, and Ingálvur av Reyni. The museum was established in 2005, thanks to a donation from local art collector Sofus Olsen, who wanted to share his passion with his native village. The building itself was designed by architect J.P. Gregoriussen, following Olsen's vision. Visitors can admire a variety of artistic expressions, including oil paintings, bronze sculptures, watercolors, prints, sketches, and ceramics. The museum also displays the original artworks created by Edward Fuglø for the Sandoy subsea tunnel, adding another layer of cultural significance. The museum's intimate setting allows for a close appreciation of each piece, fostering a deeper connection with the stories behind them. Open during specific hours that accommodate travelers, the Sandur Art Museum serves as a cultural hub, sometimes hosting workshops and local art events.
