Discover more about Drangarnir

Drangarnir, a Faroese term translating to "the sea stacks," is a pair of sea stacks that stand majestically in the North Atlantic. Situated between the island of Vágar and the islet of Tindhólmur, these rock formations have become one of the most iconic sights in the Faroe Islands. The larger of the two stacks, Stóri Drangur (meaning "large sea stack"), is renowned for its impressive arch, carved by centuries of relentless waves. The smaller stack is named Lítli Drangur (meaning "small sea stack"). Drangarnir rises to a height of 70 meters (230 ft) and provides a stunning example of the Faroe Islands' rugged coastal geology. The stacks are a haven for seabirds, especially during the summer months. Visitors can experience Drangarnir up close via guided boat tours departing from Sørvágur. These tours often combine a short boat trip with a brief hike to a viewpoint offering panoramic perspectives of the sea stacks and the surrounding ocean. Due to the area's delicate ecosystem and private land status, hiking to Drangarnir is only permitted with a guide.
