Getting There

• Car

  If you're traveling by car, start your journey from Mariehamn, the capital of Åland Islands. Head north on Route 1 (also known as Ålandsleden) towards Godby. Continue on Route 1 for about 14 kilometers until you reach the intersection with Route 1A. Take a left onto Route 1A and follow the signs for Kastelholm Castle. After about 8 kilometers, you will see signs directing you to the castle, located at 5 Tosarbyvägen, Kastelholm 22520. The total driving distance is approximately 23 kilometers and should take around 30 minutes, depending on traffic. Parking is available near the castle.

• Public Transportation

  For those using public transportation, take the bus from Mariehamn to Jomala. You can find the bus schedules at the local bus station or on the Åland traffic website. The bus ride to Jomala takes about 20 minutes. Once you arrive in Jomala, transfer to Bus 6 towards Kastelholm. The bus ride will take approximately 15 minutes. The bus will drop you off at a stop near the castle. From the bus stop, it's a short walk of about 500 meters to Kastelholm Castle. Make sure to check the bus schedules in advance for any changes in service.

  If you're feeling adventurous, consider cycling from Mariehamn to Kastelholm Castle. The route is scenic and follows the same path as driving. Begin your ride on Route 1, heading north for approximately 14 kilometers. At the intersection with Route 1A, turn left and continue for another 8 kilometers. As you approach the castle, you'll find designated bike paths and signs to guide you. This option allows you to enjoy the beautiful landscapes of Åland Islands, but be prepared for a total distance of around 23 kilometers, which may take about 1 to 1.5 hours, depending on your cycling speed.
