Discover more about Kruunumakasiini

Kruunumakasiini, located at Puusepänkatu 6 in Oulu, is a historic building with a rich past. Designed by architect Anders Fredrik Granstedt, the granary was completed in 1847 and represents neoclassical architecture. Originally, the Kruunumakasiini served as a state-administered warehouse for grain and other foodstuffs collected as tax. Over the years, it has been repurposed to serve as a timber warehouse for Oulu's woodworking industry, a waste paper storage, and even a wartime food storage. In the early 1990s, the building was renovated and transformed into restaurant, meeting, office, and event spaces by the Oulu Construction Engineers' Association. Today, it houses offices, including UKI Architects, who moved into the premises in 2008. The building also contains a CAVE simulation studio used in the VALO® design method developed by UKI Architects. While visitors can't go inside the Kruunumakasiini, its exterior is worth seeing. The old wooden building stands out among the surrounding modern apartment buildings, offering a glimpse into Oulu's past.
