    From Oulu city center, take bus number 1, 2, or 3 to the University of Oulu. These buses frequently connect the city center with the university area. Check local bus schedules for the most up-to-date information. A single ticket costs €2.60 for adults. From the nearest bus stop at the university, follow the signs to the Botanical Gardens, which are a short walk away.

  • Walking

    If you are near the Oulu Market Square (Kauppatori), you can walk to the University of Oulu Botanical Gardens. Head north on Torikatu, then turn left on Kirkkokatu. Continue until you reach Kumpulantie, then turn right. Follow Kumpulantie until you reach Kaitoväylä. The gardens will be on your left after a short walk.

  • Taxi

    Taxis are readily available in Oulu. A taxi from the city center to the University of Oulu Botanical Gardens will cost approximately €19-20. Taxi stands are located throughout the city center, or you can book a taxi in advance. Companies like Menevä and Oulu Taxi operate in the area.

    From Oulu city center, take the E75 highway (Oulu-Kemi road) and follow the signs for 'University of Oulu'. Take the exit towards Oulu University. Once on Kaitoväylä, the Botanical Gardens will be on your right at Kaitoväylä 5. Visitor parking is available, with charges applicable on weekdays between August 1st and May 31st, from 8:00 to 16:00. Short-term parking costs €1.20/hour, with a maximum of €6/day, plus the operator's fee. Parking is free at other times.

The University of Oulu Botanical Gardens offers a tranquil escape into the world of plants, serving as both a scientific research center and a public garden. Located on the University of Oulu's Linnanmaa campus, near Lake Kuivasjärvi, the gardens feature a diverse collection of over 4,000 plant species, representing vegetation from around the globe. The landmark of the gardens is the pair of pyramid-shaped greenhouses, playfully named Romeo and Julia. Inside, visitors can explore around 1,200 exotic plant species, including tropical and modified plants. The outdoor garden complements the greenhouses, providing a space to wander through various themed gardens and collections. The Botanical Garden moved to its current location in Linnanmaa in 1983, after previously being located in the Hupisaaret Islands park closer to the city center. The Botanical Museum is also located in the same area. Today, the garden continues to serve its purpose of education, research, and conservation, while also providing a beautiful space for the public to enjoy. The Science Garden is also located here, serving as a meeting point for the scientific community. Visitors can explore the outdoor garden every day from 8 AM to 8 PM. The greenhouses are open from Tuesday to Sunday, 10 AM to 4 PM. A voluntary admission fee of €5 helps support the garden's activities and ensures it can remain open on weekends.
