Discover more about Pierre-Baudis Japanese Garden

The Pierre-Baudis Japanese Garden, nestled within the 10-hectare Compans-Caffarelli park in Toulouse, offers visitors a serene escape into Japanese garden artistry and philosophy. Created in 1981 by then-mayor Pierre Baudis, who drew inspiration from gardens he visited in Kyoto and Dublin, the garden has been officially named after him since May 11, 2016. It is considered a synthesis of Kyoto gardens built between the 14th and 16th centuries. This remarkable garden features iconic elements of Japanese landscaping across 7,000 square meters. Visitors can explore a mineral garden, a central lake, and a tea pavilion. Symbolic elements include Crane and Turtle Islands, along with nine strategically placed rocks. A dry waterfall, traditional Japanese steps, lanterns, and a distinctive red wooden bridge leading to an islet representing paradise add to the garden's tranquil atmosphere. The garden also features a bust of Taisen Deshimaru, a Zen master who established numerous Zen dojos in France during the 1970s. Recognized as a 'remarkable garden of France,' it received the National Grand Prize for Flowering in 1993. The Pierre-Baudis Japanese Garden provides a cultural landmark and a peaceful retreat from the urban environment.
