Algeti National Park, nestled in the Kvemo Kartli region just 60 km southwest of Tbilisi, offers a refreshing escape into nature. Established in 1965 to protect the easternmost reaches of Caucasian Spruce and Nordmann Fir, the park has evolved into a popular destination for hikers, campers, and nature enthusiasts.The park spans over 6,800 hectares of mountainous terrain, with altitudes ranging from 1,100 to 1,950 meters above sea level. This creates a diverse landscape of ravines, streams, and mixed forests, home to over 1,600 plant species and a rich variety of wildlife, including bears, wolves, deer, foxes, and over 80 species of birds.Visitors can explore several well-marked hiking trails, including the popular 16km circular 'Samepo Kedi' (Royal Range) trail. This moderately challenging route offers panoramic views and an immersive experience in the park's natural beauty. Other attractions include the Algeti River valley, the ruins of ancient fortresses, and nearby canyons such as Dashbashi, Birtvisi and Samshvilde. The park also holds historical significance, with the Didgori Valley, site of a major Georgian victory in 1121, located near its northeastern border.The park's visitor center is located in Manglisi, where you can find information, maps, and guided tours.
