Walking
From the center of Mtskheta, start at the main square near the Svetitskhoveli Cathedral. Head south on Agmashenebeli Street towards the river. Continue walking straight until you reach the crossroads. At the crossroads, turn left onto the road that leads to the Jvari Monastery. Follow this road for about 2 kilometers. You will pass through a residential area and enjoy views of the surrounding hills. Keep an eye out for a sign pointing towards Shiomgvime Monastery. As you approach the monastery, you will see a path leading up to the entrance on your right. Follow the path up to the monastery, which is situated on a hillside.
Public Transport (minibus)
From Mtskheta, head to the minibus station located near the main square. Look for a minibus heading towards Dzegvi or Jvari. The fare is quite affordable (usually around 1 GEL). Once you board the minibus, inform the driver that you want to get off at Shiomgvime Monastery. The ride will take approximately 15-20 minutes. After you get off, follow the signs for Shiomgvime Monastery, which is a short walk from the drop-off point. You may need to walk uphill for a few minutes to reach the entrance of the monastery.
Bicycle rental
If you prefer cycling, you can rent a bicycle from one of the local rental shops in Mtskheta. Start from the main square and head towards the Jvari Monastery road. The route is mostly flat and scenic, approximately 4 kilometers long. Once you reach the sign for Shiomgvime Monastery, park your bicycle in the designated area and walk up to the monastery entrance.
