Getting there

Funicular

The most iconic way to reach Mtatsminda View Point is via the Tbilisi Funicular. Start at the lower funicular station on Chonqadze Street. Purchase a Mtatsminda card for 2 GEL, then load it with enough credit for a one-way ride, which costs 10 GEL. The funicular runs daily from 9:00 AM to midnight, with departures every 10 minutes. The ride takes about 3 minutes to the top. Alternatively, a discounted fare of 3 GEL is available for Georgian citizens and residents with a valid ID.

Cable Car

Another scenic option is the Rustaveli-Mtatsminda Cable Car. The lower station is near Rustaveli Avenue, a short walk from Rustaveli Metro Station. Purchase tickets at the station. The cable car ride takes about 5 minutes to ascend to the top of Mtatsminda Mountain, offering excellent views. Ticket prices are reasonably priced, with options for one-way or round-trip.

Bus

You can take bus #390 from Freedom Square to reach Mtatsminda Park in around 50 minutes, depending on traffic. The bus terminates near the main entrance on the west side of the park. The fare is 1 GEL per person.

Taxi

A taxi to Mtatsminda from Freedom Square costs around 20 GEL when booked through Bolt. It's recommended to use a local SIM card and book via the app rather than hailing a taxi on the street.

Walking

If you are already in the Mtatsminda neighborhood, the Mtatsminda View Point is accessible by walking. Start from the Mtatsminda Park entrance and head toward the main paths leading through the park. Follow the signs for the viewpoint, which is a short 10-15 minute walk uphill. The paths are well-marked, and you'll enjoy beautiful views along the way.

This popular tourist attraction showcases the city's beauty against a backdrop of stunning mountains.Originally, plans were made at the turn of the century to construct an 'Upper Tbilisi' high on the plateau. In 1905, a 500-meter-long funicular railway, designed by Belgian engineer Alphonse Roby, was launched to connect these two areas. While the 'Upper Tbilisi' scheme never fully materialized, the area atop Mtatsminda was converted into a landscaped park in the late 1930s.Visitors can ascend via a scenic funicular ride, enhancing the experience. The ride itself offers spectacular sights of the Georgian landscape. Upon arrival, expansive views of Tbilisi unfold, highlighting its architecture and the Kura River. The viewpoint is ideal for photography, couples, and families.Mtatsminda View Point is also home to a vibrant park with walking trails, greenery, cafes, and eateries. Visitors can enjoy leisurely strolls or savor Georgian delicacies. As the sun sets, the city transforms into a dazzling display of lights.
