Discover more about Bridge of Peace

The Bridge of Peace is a bow-shaped pedestrian bridge that stretches 150 meters across the Mtkvari River in Tbilisi, Georgia. Opened in May 2010, it quickly became a symbol of the city's renewal and a popular tourist attraction. Designed by Italian architect Michele De Lucchi, who also designed the Ceremonial Palace of Georgia and Ministry of Internal Affairs in Tbilisi, the bridge's modern design features a steel and glass construction illuminated by thousands of LEDs. The lighting design was created by French designer Philippe Martinaud. The bridge connects Erekle II Street and Rike Park, offering stunning views of Tbilisi's landmarks, including the Narikala Fortress, Metekhi Church, and the statue of Vakhtang Gorgasali. The bridge was constructed in Italy and transported to Tbilisi in 200 unassembled components. Its design, reminiscent of a marine animal, has been both praised and criticized, with some finding it a harmonious blend of old and new, while others consider it out of place in the historical district. At night, the bridge comes alive with an interactive light display generated by over 10,000 LED bulbs. The lights blink in a pattern that represents the chemical elements that make up the human body, symbolizing life and peace. Walking across the bridge provides a unique perspective of Tbilisi's evolving landscape, making it a must-visit destination for both locals and tourists.
