Opening times, essentials, and a few local tips gathered into one calmer, easier-to-scan planning section.
Public Transport
From Heidelberg Hauptbahnhof (main train station), take tram line 21, 24, or bus line 33 to the 'Rathaus/Bergbahn' stop. From there, it's a short walk (approximately 2 minutes) to the Kornmarkt, the lower station of the Heidelberger Bergbahnen. A single tram/bus ticket costs approximately €2.60. Alternatively, the HeidelbergCard offers free travel on public transport and includes the Schlossticket for the Bergbahn.
Walking
From the city center (e.g., Marktplatz), walk east towards the Kornmarkt. The walk is approximately 5-10 minutes, following the Hauptstrasse (main street) and then turning towards the Rathaus (city hall). The Kornmarkt, with the Bergbahn station, is located just behind the Rathaus.
Taxi/Ride-Share
A taxi or ride-share from Heidelberg Hauptbahnhof to the Kornmarkt will cost approximately €10-€15 and take about 5-10 minutes, depending on traffic. Specify 'Kornmarkt' or 'Bergbahn Talstation' as your destination.
Driving
Driving directly to the Kornmarkt is not recommended due to the pedestrian zone. The closest parking garage is the 'Parkhaus Kornmarkt/Schloss' (P12) located at Zwingerstraße 20, directly integrated with the Bergbahn station. Parking rates are approximately €1.50 per hour, with a daily maximum of €12-€16. Be aware that parking can be limited, especially during peak season.
