Getting There

Walking
From Heidelberg's Altstadt (Old Town), follow the signs towards Heidelberg Castle (Schloss Heidelberg). The walk uphill takes approximately 15-20 minutes. The path, known as Burgweg, begins near the Kornmarkt. Be prepared for a steep incline with stairs. As you ascend, look for the lower entrance to the Schlossgarten on your right. No costs are associated with walking.

Public Transport
From Heidelberg Hauptbahnhof (Central Station), take bus line 33 or 20 to the 'Bergbahn' stop. From there, transfer to the Bergbahn funicular railway, which ascends to the 'Schloss' station. Upon exiting the funicular, the Schlossgarten entrance is a short walk away. A single bus fare is approximately €3. The funicular ticket, which includes entry to the castle courtyard, barrel cellar, and German Pharmacy Museum, costs €11 for adults. Alternatively, a combined ticket for both the lower and upper funiculars plus entry to the castle costs €12.

Taxi/Ride-Share
A taxi or ride-share from Heidelberg's city center to the Heidelberg Castle entrance will cost approximately €10-€16 and takes around 5-10 minutes, depending on traffic. Be aware that access to the castle via Neue Schlossstraße is currently closed to vehicles. The driver will likely drop you off near the Kornmarkt, from where you can walk up Burgweg or take the funicular.

Driving to Heidelberg Castle is possible, but parking is limited. There are a few parking spots about 500m from the main entrance of the castle grounds. The driveway to the castle is only possible for coaches with a chargeable parking space reservation / special permit. The bus parking lot at the castle offers space for 6 buses. Reservation is necessary! Buses over 14.50 m in length are not permitted on the driveway. Prices: 36 € flat rate for the first 90 minutes, each additional hour costs € 20. An evening flat rate of €50 applies from 7 p.m. to 8 a.m. A day flat rate is not offered. Consider parking in the Altstadt (Old Town) and walking or taking public transport the rest of the way. Parking garages in the Altstadt typically charge €2-€3 per hour.
