Getting There

  • Walking

    From the Gibraltar Cruise Terminal, it is approximately a 49-minute walk to St. Michael's Cave, covering a distance of 4 km. Alternatively, from the top of the Gibraltar Cable Car, it's a 15-20 minute downhill walk (0.9km) to the cave entrance. Note that a Nature Reserve ticket is required to access St. Michael's Cave. Tickets can be purchased at the entrance or from official tour operators. Consider that the walk from the cable car is steep.

  • Public Transport

    From the Gibraltar Airport or the frontier with Spain, take a Citibus Route 5 or Route 10 to the Market Place in the town center. From Market Place, connect to other bus routes that will take you to the Cable Car base station. Routes number 4 and 9 will take you to the bus stop called Alameda House, just outside the Cable Car base Station. Take the Cable Car to the top. From the top, it is approximately a 20-minute downhill walk to the cave entrance. A single bus ticket costs approximately £2.20. A round-trip cable car ticket costs approximately £19.

  • Taxi

    Taxis are available throughout Gibraltar, including at the airport, cruise terminal, and town center. A taxi ride from the Gibraltar Airport to St. Michael's Cave is approximately 7 km and takes about 16 minutes. The cost is approximately £20-£25. Note that taxis can also take you directly to the entrance of St. Michael's Cave, which is within the Upper Rock Nature Reserve. Entry tickets to the Nature Reserve will still be required.
