Europa Point Lighthouse, also known as the Trinity Lighthouse, is an iconic structure located at the southernmost point of Gibraltar. Completed in 1841, it has served as a crucial navigational aid for vessels passing through the Strait of Gibraltar, the gateway between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. The lighthouse is managed by Trinity House, making it the only one of their lighthouses located outside of the British Isles.The lighthouse stands 20 meters tall, rising 49 meters above sea level. Its light can be seen for approximately 37 kilometers. Originally, the light was produced by a single-wick oil lamp, but it has undergone several upgrades over the years, including the introduction of a four-wick burner in 1864 and full automation in 1994. In 2016, the rotating optic was replaced with LED lanterns.Europa Point itself is a significant location steeped in history and offers visitors several attractions in addition to the lighthouse. From this vantage point, one can see the coast of North Africa and the meeting of two oceans. Other notable sites at Europa Point include the Ibrahim-al-Ibrahim Mosque, the Sikorski Memorial, and various historical fortifications. The area is also a popular spot for birdwatching, with migratory birds frequently passing through.

Public Transport
From Gibraltar's city center, the easiest way to reach Europa Point Lighthouse is by bus. Take the No. 2 or No. 4 bus from the main bus terminal at the Market Place. The ride takes approximately 20-30 minutes. A single fare is around £2, or consider a Hopper Ticket for unlimited daily travel on all Gibraltar buses. Alight at the Europa Point bus stop, a short, signposted walk from the lighthouse.
Walking
If you're already visiting the Upper Rock Nature Reserve, you can walk to Europa Point Lighthouse. Follow the marked walking trails from the reserve's entrance towards the southern tip of Gibraltar. The walk takes approximately 1 hour and offers scenic views. Ensure you have comfortable shoes and water. Upon approaching Europa Point, follow signs to the lighthouse.
Taxi
Taxis are readily available throughout Gibraltar. A taxi ride from the Gibraltar Cruise Terminal to Europa Point Lighthouse typically takes around 19 minutes. The estimated fare is around £9-£20, but this can vary depending on traffic and time of day. Taxis generally charge a base fee of £3.60, plus £2 per kilometer.
Car
If driving, head south from Gibraltar's city center on the A1, following signs for Europa Point. The route passes through the Gibraltar Nature Reserve. Parking is available near the lighthouse. Parking is free. Be aware that traffic can be heavy, especially during peak hours.
