Getting There

  • Hiking

    To reach Platyvola Cave from the center of Samaria Gorge, start your hike from the entrance of the gorge at the Omalos Plateau. Follow the designated hiking trail leading south through the gorge. The trek will take approximately 4-5 hours depending on your pace. As you hike, keep an eye out for the signs pointing towards Platyvola Cave. The cave is located off the main trail, approximately 1 hour from the end of the gorge. Look for a small path that veers off towards your right, marked by a wooden sign. Continue along this path for about 15 minutes until you arrive at the cave entrance.

  • Private Vehicle

    If you are driving, park your vehicle at the entrance of Samaria Gorge National Park. From there, you will need to hike to Platyvola Cave as detailed above. Note that the park entrance fee is about 5 euros per person, which you will need to pay at the gate. Make sure to check the park's operating hours before your visit.

  • Public Transportation

    Take a bus from Chania to Omalos, which is the closest village to the entrance of Samaria Gorge. The bus service runs multiple times a day, and the trip takes about 1 hour.
