From Charaki beach, follow the road towards Agathi beach. A steep, rocky path leads from the road up to Feraklos Castle. The climb takes approximately 20-30 minutes and requires sturdy footwear. There are no entrance fees.
Public Transport

Take the bus from Rhodes Town or Lindos to Charaki. From the bus stop in Charaki, walk towards the beach and follow the road to Agathi beach. The trailhead to Feraklos Castle is located on the right-hand side of the road. Bus fare from Rhodes Town to Charaki is approximately €4 - €6. The walk from the bus stop to the castle trailhead is about 15 minutes.

Feraklos Castle, also known as Feraklou or Faraklenon Castle, stands as a ruined testament to Rhodes' turbulent past. Located on an 85-meter-high hill overlooking the village of Charaki, this medieval fortress offers visitors a rewarding climb and stunning views of the coastline.Originally built during the Byzantine era, Feraklos Castle gained strategic importance when it was captured by the Knights Hospitaller in 1306, becoming their first possession on the island. The Knights significantly expanded and strengthened the castle, using it as a vital lookout post and stronghold. Its location provided easy access to sea routes and allowed them to monitor approaching enemy ships. In 1474, it served as a refuge for villagers from surrounding areas during times of danger.Despite withstanding numerous attacks, including an attempted siege by the Ottoman Turks in 1445, Feraklos eventually fell to Suleiman the Magnificent in 1523. Following the capture, the castle was abandoned and never reoccupied, leaving it to slowly decay.Today, visitors can explore the extensive ruins, including the outer walls, two cylindrical towers, and a cistern. Although the climb to the castle can be challenging due to the rocky terrain and crumbling paths, the panoramic views of Charaki, Agathi Beach, and the surrounding coastline are well worth the effort.
