Discover more about Latte of Freedom

The Latte of Freedom stands as a proud symbol of Guam and its unique Chamorro heritage. Located at the Ricardo J. Bordallo Governor's Complex in Hagåtña, this monument offers visitors a chance to reflect on the island's history and culture. The monument's design is based on the ancient latte stones, which were used as foundational supports for important Chamorro structures. These stones consist of a pillar and a capstone, representing strength and endurance in the Mariana Islands. The Latte of Freedom was envisioned by Governor Ricardo J. Bordallo as a monument that would capture the Chamorro culture. His idea was for the Latte of Freedom to be for the West what the Statue of Liberty is to the East. Completed in 2010, the Latte of Freedom is made of reinforced concrete and structural steel beams and is designed to withstand typhoons. Visitors can ascend the tower to enjoy panoramic views of Guam's western shores and learn about the island's history through informative plaques. The site also features some old Latte stones and a military gun to the left of the road.
