Discover more about Agat Unit | Ga'an Point

Ga'an Point, a unit of the War in the Pacific National Historical Park, is located on the coast of Agat, Guam. This seemingly tranquil location holds significant historical weight as part of the southern landing site for U.S. forces during the Battle of Guam on July 21, 1944. The area, encompassing Hågat Beach from Bangi Point to Apaca Point, was strategically chosen to help secure the Orote Peninsula. Imperial Japanese forces heavily fortified Ga'an Point, integrating defenses into the natural coral outcroppings. These fortifications included pillboxes, concrete blockhouses, and various guns, such as a 20cm short barrel naval gun and 25mm machine cannons. Today, visitors can explore the remnants of these fortifications, including a stronghold built into the rock, a concrete blockhouse with visible Japanese inscriptions, and two guns on display: a 25mm anti-aircraft gun and a 20cm coastal defense gun. Beyond its historical significance, Ga'an Point offers a beautiful coastal environment. Visitors can access Hågat Beach from the parking area via a paved path, passing restrooms and leading to the historic guns and fortifications. The beach itself is shallow and rocky, with seagrass beds offshore. Divers can explore the submerged remains of WWII-era vehicles, including an Amtrac LVT-4 and a jeep trailer, approximately 300 meters from the cemetery south of Ga'an Point.
