Discover more about Fuha Rock | Fo'na and Pontan

Fuha Rock, nestled in a secluded bay in the southern village of Humåtak, Guam, is more than just a striking natural landmark; it's a place where ancient legends come to life. Known as the Creation Point, this 150-foot rock formation holds deep significance for the Chamorro people, the indigenous inhabitants of Guam. According to Chamorro legend, the universe was created by the brother and sister gods, Puntan and Fu'una. Puntan, knowing his spirit was fading, asked Fu'una to use his body to create the world. She fashioned the earth from his back, the sky from his chest, the sun and moon from his eyes, and rainbows from his eyebrows. After creating the world, Fu'una, feeling lonely, transformed herself into Fouha Rock. From this rock, the first humans emerged, populating the earth. The ancient Chamorro people believed the rock held mystical healing powers due to it being Fu'una's final resting place. Even with the strong Catholic influence from Spanish rule, the legend of Fuha Rock remains a vital part of Chamorro culture, passed down through generations. Visiting Fuha Rock involves an easy hike along a trail that winds through grassy hills and clusters of coconut and banana trees, leading down to a picturesque bay. The trail begins at the Guam Power Authority substation WBP-2, just north of Umatac Bay. While the hike is relatively easy, the return trip involves an uphill climb, and the shoreline is comprised of sharp limestone, coral, and rocks, so appropriate footwear is recommended.
