Getting There

Tuk-Tuk
From Antigua Guatemala, head to the main square (Parque Central). Look for tuk-tuk drivers waiting near the square. Inform the driver that you want to go to El Pacaya. The ride will take approximately 30-40 minutes. The tuk-tuk will take you to the base of the volcano, where you will need to pay a small fee for entrance. There are usually guides available at the entrance if you wish to hire one.

Shared Shuttle
At the central bus station in Antigua, look for the shared shuttle services heading towards San Vicente Pacaya. Ask for a shuttle that goes directly to the base of El Pacaya. The shuttle ride will take around 45 minutes. Once at the base, you can either start your hike up the volcano or hire a local guide if you haven’t already done so.

Walking to the Base
If you're feeling adventurous and want to enjoy the scenic views, you can walk to the base of El Pacaya. Start from Parque Central, head east towards 5a Calle Poniente, and continue until you reach the end of the street. From there, take the path that leads to the highway, which is approximately 5-6 kilometers. Be aware that this will take a couple of hours, and you will need to find transportation from the highway to the base of the volcano.
