Getting There

If you are traveling by car, start your journey from Lethem. Head north on the Georgetown-Lethem Road (also known as the BRR) for approximately 80 kilometers until you reach the Kurupukari Crossing. There will be signs indicating the Iwokrama River Lodge. Once you arrive at the crossing, look for the entrance to the lodge, which is situated on the Essequibo River. Be prepared for some rough road conditions, and ensure your vehicle has good clearance.

Public Transportation
For public transportation, take a minibus or taxi from Lethem to Kurupukari. The journey typically takes about 1.5 to 2 hours. Upon reaching Kurupukari, you may need to hire a local taxi or take a short boat ride across the Essequibo River to reach Iwokrama River Lodge. Confirm the fare with your driver beforehand. Expect to pay around GYD 2000-3000 for the taxi ride from Kurupukari to the lodge.

If you are already in Kurupukari, you will need to take a boat across the Essequibo River to reach the lodge. Local fishermen often provide this service. Make sure to negotiate the fare, which usually ranges from GYD 1000-1500 per person, depending on the number of passengers and time of day. Be aware that this service may not be available during heavy rains.
