Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, start your journey from the city center of Yoro. Head northwest on CA-5 for about 10 kilometers until you reach the town of El Progreso. From El Progreso, continue north on the CA-5 highway for approximately 25 kilometers until you arrive at the junction leading to Malacatón. Turn left onto the road that leads to Malacatón, and follow the signs. After about 15 kilometers, you will arrive at La Fortaleza, located in Malacatón. Ensure your vehicle is in good condition as some parts of the road may be unpaved.

• Public Transportation

  To reach La Fortaleza via public transportation, take a bus from the main bus terminal in Yoro to El Progreso. Buses to El Progreso run frequently throughout the day, and the fare is approximately 30-50 Lempiras (about $1-2). Once in El Progreso, look for buses or collectivos (shared taxis) heading towards Malacatón. The fare for this leg of the journey is usually around 20-30 Lempiras ($0.75-$1). Ask the driver to drop you off at La Fortaleza, or simply inform them you are going there. Be prepared for a short walk from the main road to the entrance of the park.

• Taxi

  If you prefer a more direct route, consider hiring a taxi from Yoro to La Fortaleza. Negotiate the fare beforehand, but expect to pay around 300-500 Lempiras ($12-$20) for the trip, depending on your negotiation skills and the taxi service. This option is more convenient, especially if you are traveling with luggage or have limited time. The driver should be familiar with La Fortaleza and can take you directly to the entrance.
