If you are traveling by car, start at Fimmvorduhals Pass and navigate to the parking area for Thríhnúkagígur Volcano. You will want to head south on Route 1 (the Ring Road) towards Reykjavík. After approximately 30 kilometers, take the exit for Route 421 towards Bláfjöll. Continue on Route 421 for about 13 kilometers until you reach the parking area for the volcano. There is a parking fee of around ISK 1,000. From the parking area, follow the marked hiking trails that will lead you to the volcano entrance, which is approximately a 45-minute hike.

If you choose to take public transportation, you can take a bus from Reykjavík to the Bláfjöll area. From the main bus terminal in Reykjavík, catch a bus to Bláfjöll, which operates several times a day. Once you arrive at the Bláfjöll bus stop, you will need to hike approximately 8 kilometers to the Thríhnúkagígur Volcano parking area. Ensure you check the bus schedules in advance as they can vary seasonally. There is also a small fee for the bus ride, usually around ISK 1,500. After reaching the parking area, follow the marked trails to the volcano entrance.
