To reach Raufarhólshellir by car from Reykjavík, start by heading southeast on Miklabraut (Route 49) from the city center. Continue on Miklabraut until it merges into Route 1 (the Ring Road). Follow Route 1 for approximately 22 kilometers. Look for the sign for Raufarhólshellir, which will lead you to a left turn onto Route 39. Continue on Route 39 for about 1.5 kilometers, and then you will find the entrance to the lava tunnel on your right. Parking is available on-site, and there may be a small fee.

To get to Raufarhólshellir using public transport, take the Strætó bus number 1 from Reykjavík to the bus terminal at Hlemmur. From there, switch to bus number 51 towards Þorlákshöfn. Get off at the stop called 'Raufarhóll', which is about a 5-minute walk from Raufarhólshellir. The total travel time is approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes, depending on the schedule and waiting times. Be aware that bus tickets cost around 490 ISK for a single journey.
