Getting There

  • Walking

    From downtown Waukegan, head north on N Genesee St towards E Washington St. Continue on N Genesee St for about 1 mile until you reach E Grand Ave. Turn left onto E Grand Ave and walk for about 0.5 miles. After crossing the bridge over the train tracks, keep walking straight until you reach the intersection with N Sheridan Rd. Turn right onto N Sheridan Rd and continue walking for about 1 mile. The entrance to Illinois Beach Nature Preserve will be on your left, just before the intersection with N Beach Rd.

  • Public Transport

    Start at the Waukegan Transit Center located at 200 E Washington St. Take the PACE Bus Route 570 towards the North Chicago Metra Station. Ride for about 15 minutes and get off at the stop at N Sheridan Rd & N Beach Rd. From there, walk south along N Sheridan Rd for about 0.5 miles until you reach the entrance of Illinois Beach Nature Preserve.
