Discover more about Shri Dukh Bhanjani Beri Sahib

The Dukh Bhanjani Beri, meaning 'eradicator of suffering,' stands on the eastern side of the Amrit Sarovar (the sacred pool) within the Golden Temple complex. This ancient jujube tree is more than just a historical landmark; it is a symbol of hope, faith, and healing for devotees worldwide. The tree's history is intertwined with the legend of Bibi Rajni, the daughter of a wealthy landowner, Duni Chand Khatri. When Duni Chand asked his daughters who provided for them, Rajni replied that God sustains all living things. Angered by this, Duni Chand married her to a leper. Despite her husband's condition, Bibi Rajni remained devoted and faithful. According to the legend, Bibi Rajni brought her husband to the pond near the Beri tree, now the site of the Golden Temple. While she went to find food, her husband noticed crows diving into the water and emerging with white feathers. Inspired, he bathed in the pond and was miraculously cured of his leprosy. This event gave the tree and the surrounding waters their reputation for healing. Today, pilgrims visit the Dukh Bhanjani Beri to offer prayers and seek blessings, believing that the waters near the tree possess healing properties. The site serves as a reminder of the Sikh principles of compassion, kindness, and faith in the divine.
