From Carmel, you can take the IndyGo bus service. Board the Route 66 bus towards 'Fountain Square'. The bus will take you to the downtown area of Indianapolis. Once you reach the 'Washington Street & Delaware Street' stop, disembark. From there, walk south on Delaware Street until you reach East Lockerbie Street. Turn left onto Lockerbie Street, and you will find the James Whitcomb Riley Museum Home & Visitor Center at 528 Lockerbie St, just a short walk down the street.

If you prefer cycling, you can rent a bike from a local bike rental shop in Carmel. Head south on the Monon Trail, which leads directly towards Indianapolis. Follow the trail until you reach the intersection with 16th Street, then turn right. Continue on 16th Street until you reach Delaware Street, then turn left. Finally, turn right onto Lockerbie Street, and you will arrive at the museum at 528 Lockerbie St.

Cross over and take the pedestrian path leading to the Monon Trail. Follow the trail south until you reach 16th Street. Turn right on 16th Street and walk until you hit Delaware Street, then turn left. Finally, take another right onto Lockerbie Street, and the museum will be on your left at 528 Lockerbie St.
