Public Transportation
From the Gary Metro Center, take the South Shore Line train towards Chicago. The train runs frequently, so check the schedule on the South Shore Line website or at the station. After about a 50-minute ride, you will arrive at the Millennium Station in Chicago. Once you exit the train, follow the signs to the underground Pedway, which will take you to several buildings in downtown. Walk towards the State Street exit. Once you reach State Street, head south on State Street. Continue walking for about 5 minutes until you reach 400 S State St, where you will find the Harold Washington Library Center.

From the Gary Metro Center, board a bus on the Gary Public Transportation Corporation (GPTC) route that goes to the South Shore Line station. Once you arrive at the station, catch the South Shore Line train towards Chicago. After arriving at Millennium Station, exit and walk towards State Street. Head south on State Street for about 5 minutes to reach the Harold Washington Library Center at 400 S State St.

If you are already in downtown Gary, you can walk to the Gary Metro Center, which is about a 15-minute walk from the downtown area. Once at the Metro Center, board the South Shore Line train towards Chicago. After about 50 minutes, get off at Millennium Station. From there, follow the signs to State Street and walk south for about 5 minutes until you arrive at the Harold Washington Library Center located at 400 S State St.
