Car
From Indiana Dunes National Park, exit onto US-20 E. Continue on US-20 E for approximately 15 miles. Merge onto I-94 E towards Detroit. Take the exit for US-421 S towards Michigan City. Continue on US-421 S until you reach Lake Shore Drive. Turn left onto Lake Shore Drive, and the Washington Park Zoo will be on your right at 115 Lake Shore Dr, Michigan City, IN 46360. The drive takes about 30 minutes.

To reach Washington Park Zoo using public transportation, first, take a South Shore Line train from the Dune Park station in Indiana Dunes National Park to the Michigan City station. This journey takes approximately 20-30 minutes. Once you arrive at the Michigan City station, you can take a local bus (Route 3) towards the beach and get off at the stop closest to 115 Lake Shore Dr. The total travel time may take about an hour or more depending on bus schedules.
