Getting There

• Walking

  If you are in Downtown Indianapolis, you can easily walk to the James Whitcomb Riley Museum Home & Visitor Center. Start at the Soldiers and Sailors Monument located at the center of Monument Circle. Head northeast on N Meridian St toward E Maryland St. Continue walking until you reach the intersection with E Washington St. Turn left onto E Washington St and continue walking until you reach N Park Ave. Turn right onto N Park Ave and walk north until you reach E 6th St. Finally, turn left onto E 6th St, and continue until you reach Lockerbie St. The museum is located at 528 Lockerbie St, just a short walk from the main downtown area.

• Public Transit (Bus)

  For those preferring public transport, you can take the IndyGo bus. From downtown, walk to the nearest bus stop at the corner of N Illinois St and E Market St. Board Bus Route 8 (Washington St) heading east. Ride for approximately 6 stops and get off at the Lockerbie St stop. From there, it is a short 5-minute walk to the museum. Head south on Lockerbie St, and you will find the James Whitcomb Riley Museum Home & Visitor Center at 528 Lockerbie St. Please note that a single ride on IndyGo costs $1.75.

  If you prefer biking, consider using the Pacers Bikeshare program. Locate a nearby Bikeshare station in downtown, rent a bike, and head towards the museum. Start by heading east on E Washington St, then turn right onto N Park Ave. Continue north until you reach E 6th St, where you will make a left. Follow E 6th St until you reach Lockerbie St, and then turn left to arrive at 528 Lockerbie St. Rental costs are $8 for a single ride or $18 for a day pass.
